Time-Clip No. 70

1985 – 1990

A few notes regarding data processing and communication during this time:

–  First home computer (Sinclair ZX-80) purchased from
Great Britain for less than 500 DM.
–  State-of-the-art memory chips were able to store
64 000 bits of data.
–  Apple launched “Lisa”, the first computer with a
mouse in 1983.
–  The fax system was introduced to the
German-speaking world, Great Britain and
Sweden in around 1982.

A move to reorganise order processing within the company was started in 1982 under the name of “New order processing”.
This approach was adopted in order to shorten the throughput time of orders, to cut costs in contract processing, design, production and administration and to increase the organisation's flexibility.

There were also plans to introduce greater computer-assisted processing of commercial quotations and orders and parts list/work schedule administration.

In 1983 interactive screen-based accounting was introduced
and materials management was changed over to interactive processing.
